HISTORY OF THE FOUNDATION:
The Heavenly Ski Foundation began as a non-profit corporation in 1985 to serve the community for educational and charitable purposes.
It has since grown into an educational and charitable organization to benefit young amateur athletes in the winter disciplines of Alpine Ski Racing, Freestyle and Snowboard Programs. It is only through the financial assistance of fundraising efforts, community support and volunteers, that the Foundation is able to continue to offer it's programs for the youth of South Lake Tahoe and other surrounding areas in both California and Nevada.
HEAVENLY SKI FOUNDATION'S MISSION/GOAL:
The Heavenly Ski Foundation's goal is to make it possible for every interested young athlete in the local and surrounding communities to take advantage of the programs offered by it's competitive ski and snowboard teams. It will provide a supportive and healthy environment to all levels of athlete regardless of economic background. The Foundation strives to assist these young athletes to advance not only athletically but socially and educationally as well. It encourages athletes to gain mental and physical self esteem, respect for others and good sportsmanship. It will provide for all levels of participation which allows for personal development beyond athletics. Athletes are assisted to prepare for participation in Far West races, Junior Olympic events and U.S. Nationals and Nor-Am events.
LOCATION:
The Foundation building is located on land belonging to the Heavenly Ski Resort. It is on the California side of the resort.
FACILITY ORIGIN:
The facility was built using donated monies from participant families, fundraisers, community and individual donations. Over eighty percent of operational costs are met through fundraising efforts throughout the year.
